IN THE BEGINNING OF SCENE 1, HOW IS THE FIGHT BETWEEN CASSIO AND RODERIGO A "NO LOSE SITUATION" FOR IAGO?
For Iago, it doesn’t matter whether Roderigo or Cassio die. If Roderigo dies, he still keeps all the money he has been payed and does not have to keep up this act of manipulating him into thinking that he still has a chance with Desdemona. If Cassio dies, then Othello will continue to think that Cassio and his wife were together and has no one to testify other than Desdemona, whom he doesn’t trust anymore. Either way, Iago’s secret stays a secret, and Othello’s life is still turned upside down.
